I am not a professional mountaineer, far less a writer. But I love the mountains, I look at them with admiration and I treat them with care.

I started my trek in the Tatra Mountains in Poland. There I was confronted with my fear of heights for the first time. Although I am not cured, I no longer panic on steep hills or obstruct traffic on narrow paths.

I never go on hikes in the mountains alone. My companion, both in the mountains and in life, is my husband Lukas.

I moved to Switzerland in April 2016 and it was only here that my passion developed. In Poland, I could only afford a one-week trip to Zakopane or Bukowina Tatrzańska in the Polish mountains once a year. In Switzerland, because I have a General Abonnement (a ticket that entitles me to travel anywhere in Switzerland), I don’t have to plan my trips or put money in a piggy bank. I just check the weather, choose my route, pack my backpack and get on the train.

The routes I take are not particularly difficult, dangerous or require special equipment. I am not a professional. Nevertheless, I like to choose longer routes. However, I carefully calculate the time I spend on the train and on the trail in order to be home before nightfall.

I must admit that I have already covered quite a few kilometres of walking, and the memory in my mobile phone is a constant reminder. Because from every trip I bring back many photos. After many years in Switzerland, my husband and I decided to document our treks in a different way than just photos, namely through a blog. We sort our photos and write down the “memories”, and you can get ideas for an active weekend.

I love the mountains. Even as a small child, I was taken on hikes in the Polish mountains (Tatra) by Grandpa Gerard and Grandma Hela.

Both were active members of the Polish hiking club PTTK and so I was able to take part in many hiking events. Since my grandfather was in charge of a ski lift in Bukowina Tatrzańska in winter and my father was a skiing enthusiast, I also started skiing at an early age. Without false modesty, I can now say that I am a good skier.

Hiking took a break in my life after childhood. It was only in 2006 that I started hiking again in the Polish mountains. That was after I met and fell in love with my wife Iwona.

So we discovered this passion for ourselves and went hiking in the Polish Tatra Mountains almost every year. It wasn’t until I moved to Switzerland in 2015 that I became a regular hiker.

Together with Iwona, we go to the mountains almost every weekend (when it’s not raining). In summer we do high-altitude hikes and in winter we go snowshoeing.

We don’t own a car and always take the train or bus to the hiking route. You can do that very well in Switzerland and we appreciate that very much, in addition to the Swiss attitude to life and the fantastic nature.
