I like to return to Seealpsee very much. It is close, it is beautiful and it is very alpine. Almost everyone who lives in Switzerland knows this place, at least by hearsay. This can be seen on the trail, which is popular with many walkers, especially on a beautiful sunny day.
The trail is easy and pleasant. However, the ground is quite difficult, especially when descending from Ebenalp and requires suitable footwear and concentration.
We reached Ebenalp station by a mountain railway leaving from Wasserauen. There is a huge parking area for motorists near the cable car.
Although my route leads from the station straight down, I recommend going a bit further up in the direction of the restaurant before the hike. From there you have an amazing view that you would be sorry to miss.
After enjoying the magnificent mountain scenery, we descend down to Seealpsee itself. On the way, however, equally beautiful views and interesting places await us. On the way, you pass the old chapel of Archangel Michael located in a rock gap and the very well-known mountain restaurant Aescher.
This mountain inn is very popular and I warn you that it is hard to get a free seat. The determined can wait, while the impatient go further afield and take a break in an equally beautiful spot by the Seealpsee itself.
At the lake, you can also try the food in one of the restaurants or make a small bonfire or picnic yourself. In a wooden hut nearby, local cheeses are sold. The host is friendly and lets you try the product before you buy it. We liked the cheese from cow milk, ripened in spices (Gewürzkäse).
An additional attraction is swimming in the lake. Recently I saw daredevils who, not minding the temperature of the water, decided to jump into it. There was a lot of shouting, but they kept smiling. So if you are interested in swimming, do not forget to take your swimming costume with you.
