The route from Adelboden to Lenk is a section (Stage 15) of the much longer Via Alpina route running through 7 cantons and 14 Alpine passes. It starts in Vaduz near Lichtenstein and ends in Montreux near Lausanne. This gives a total of around 400 kilometres of hiking and over 20,000 metres of elevation gain.
That’s quite a lot! This is why I suggest exploring this route in stages. In this case, starting from Adelboden to the Hahnenmoospass pass and then hiking towards Lenk.
The first few kilometres are taken by the Allenbach River and then along the banks of the Geilsbach stream. Although the path leads upwards a few hundred metres, the ascent is gentle and the ground very accessible.
From the Geils station towards Hahnenmoospass, the view opens up to the snow-covered Wildstrubel massif with its three peaks over 3’000 m above sea level and the Plaine Morte glacier.
In good weather, model glider enthusiasts can be found here flying their gliders over the valley.
This place also invites you to take a break before descending into the Simmental Valley. And you can eat something warm in a local restaurant.
The route ends in the small tourist village of Lenk im Simmental.
