So many people have praised this place that I too finally made the trip to Kandersteg and the beautiful mountain lake Oeschinensee.
Kandersteg is a small, picturesque village situated at 1’174 m above sea level, in the valley of the river Kander. It is very well known for its fantastic mountain trails, ski runs and via ferratas. It is also home to a Scout Centre belonging to the World Organisation of the Scout Movement. It has more than 50 million members, coming from 169 member countries.
The Oeschinensee is considered to be the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps. It is located at the foot of massive rock walls, snow-capped on the peaks, and its turquoise colour, glistening in the sunshine, looks unearthly. In addition, the glaciated Blüemlisalp mountain range is in sight. It simply has to be seen and experienced for yourself.
The trail leads high above Kandersteg, along steep mountain slopes. In some places the paths are quite narrow and are additionally secured with ropes. Just don’t get confused at the start, because after the car park the yellow signposts take you on a slightly different route. To make things easier, you have to go through a campsite and the path goes under the mountain railway.
At the start, the Oeschinensee is visible from above. And the higher you go, the more the magnificent panorama opens up. At the highest point, which is also a kind of viewing platform, it is worth taking a break and enjoying the view.
Further on the path leads down to the lake itself. It does not hurt to stop there either. For those who are hungry, there is quite a selection of different snacks offered in the restaurant and in the small stalls standing near the lake.
