Sunday morning. Outside the window a sunrise promises nice, sunny weather. It would be a shame not to take advantage of it. So, warmly dressed, this time we set off to the canton of Graubünden, specifically to St. Antönien.

It is a small town beautifully situated among mountains at an altitude of 1’450 m, considered to be a paradise for climbers, skiers and mountain hikers. As I belong to the latter group and have already been here several times, I can assure you that it is well worth a visit both in summer and winter. There is no shortage of hiking trails in the area.

I must admit that this place stuck in my memory, not because of the beautiful views and the location, but perversely, because of the 14th century Evangelical church building. It is located in the very centre of the village. And you can already see it from a distance because of its tall and sharply pointed tower. I am not a great lover of architecture, but this building in such a mountainous setting caught my eye and stayed in my memory.

Returning to the winter route, I should add that after exiting bus 222 at the St. Antönien Platz stop, continue straight ahead on the asphalt road, then turn left and enjoy the beautiful mountain view of the surrounding area. At first the road is tarmac. But don’t be discouraged, because after a few hundred metres you are already on a snow-covered path, leading first through the forest and then higher up the slopes.

Finally, despite the lack of crowds of hikers, the paths were well trodden and this time we did not get buried in snow.
