Alpine meadows, chapels, Lake Sarnen and a beautiful mountain panorama are just some of what you will see on the route from Sachseln to Sarnen.
Initially, the trail leads upwards towards the picturesque village of Flüeli Ranft, which is very well known, especially among pilgrims. This is because Saint Niklaus, known as Brother Klaus (1417 – 1487), was born and lived here.
In addition, the village is distinguished by the Art Nouveau Paxmontana Hotel, which was built at the end of the 19th century. Initially, the hotel served as a spa. In the 20th century, however, it was used by pilgrims who visited the places where Brother Klaus (Bruder Klaus) lived and worked. Today the hotel is a three-star establishment with 83 rooms.
The trail continues downhill to the Ranft Gorge, where there are two chapels and the hermitage cell where Brother Klaus spent the last 20 years of his life.
Those interested in learning more about the facts of the Saint’s life and work can take a short guided tour of the area. Guided tours are organised for both groups and individual visitors.
After leaving the ravine, you pass another Müsli chapel and, after a few hundred metres, another one – St. Niklausen with its characteristic stone bell tower from the 14th century. The next point on the trail is the Dominican monastery Bethanien.
After St. Anton, you should already be off the Bruderklausenweg (der Bruderklausenweg), which leads to Stans itself, and head down towards Kerns. From here it is close to Sarnen, where this route ends.
