The Areuse Ravine is one of the most important and impressive natural monuments in the Jura region.
The huge rock formations and spectacular waterfalls are impressive. In some places, the current is so strong that the noise of the river will even drown out a group of amused teenagers.
More than a dozen bridges and footbridges cross the river. The most famous here is the stone arch bridge at Saut de Brot. It is mainly this bridge that attracts walkers to the site. But the gorge does not stop at this bridge. There are many other, equally magical points along this route.
An interesting fact is that bats have made their home in the surrounding rocks, and apparently in considerable numbers. As many as 28 species have been counted in the region.
You can find out more about them at the educational exhibition in the small half-timbered house. You will pass it near the Champ du Moulin station.
There are also plenty of places along the route where you can take a break, spread out a blanket and enjoy the surroundings.
As for the conditions on the trail, be warned that it is quite wet and slippery in a few sections. There are also steps. So remember to wear suitable footwear. Other than that, the paths are very well groomed and protected with railings in appropriate places.
