This is a winter trail with sensational views, where snowshoes will certainly come in handy. Parts of the trail are well cleared of snow, but there are some sections where it is a good idea to have snowshoes with you, especially when it snows.
The trail starts at the top station of the Morschach – Stoos Bergstation cable car (GA holders have free entry) and at the fork in the road, head to the right.
The route is well signposted with pink posts, but there are many skiers hanging around at the lifts and you may lose your bearings for a while. This is when a map and the location on your phone come in handy.
It is only at the ski lifts that it is noisy and colourful (from the ski suits). On the trail it is rather quiet and peaceful. Snow and beautiful mountain ranges all around. In the distance you can see the well-known Grosser and Kleiner Mythen peaks.
Those who are cold and hungry are also sure to find something to eat. There are inns close to the piste, opened in winter with skiers in mind.
Last but not least, the village of Stoos can also be reached by rail from Schlattli in the municipality of Schwyz. This state-of-the-art railway started in December 2017, and looks like it was delivered straight from a funfair. Its capabilities are also impressive, well, the maximum gradient is 47.73° (110%), and the passenger won’t even feel it.
So, if you don’t like cable cars running high above the ground, you can also take this winter route on a modern monorail.
