The first destination is the village Ziegelbrücke. Continue with bus no. 650 to the bus stop Amden Dorf. The bus ride up the mountain itself is a lot of fun, thanks to the views.
From the bus window, you can see the traditional houses scattered across the mountains and the magnificent Lake Walensee. Seemingly a typical view in Switzerland, but after 3 years I still haven’t got tired of it.
After getting off the bus, head to the cable car station. Here you have to choose between two options. Either a chairlift ride up or an approximately 45 minute walk to Niederschlagwald. The route runs underneath the lift. If you decide to ride, I advise you to check that the cable car is open. Don’t make the same mistake I did. In the end, the approach was not so bad.
At the top, the trail is fairly easy, without any steep hills. But we did hit a lot of snow, which slowed us down a lot. We also had to deviate from the trail and go a bit lower, because we couldn’t see the trail and the snow was sliding down the slope. Definitely better to choose this hike at the end of May – beginning of June at the earliest. Unless you like wading in snow up to your knees.
