This winter trail is designed for snowshoeing. But, as is well known, snow is not always easy to come by. It is therefore advisable to check the conditions in advance (for example here).
The route starts at the valley station of the Atzmännig Schutt ski lift and leads initially downhill towards the Goldingerbach stream.
Looking for gold in Goldingerbach
The word Gold (gold) in the name Goldingerbach is no coincidence. During the Middle Ages, gold prospectors reportedly made some good finds here. Unfortunately, the “gold spring” has long since been exhausted. Unless the locals made a pact of silence. Nevertheless, the area and without the gold in the water remains attractive.
After a few hundred metres, you continue uphill through snow-covered meadows and forest groves. And the higher you go, the more spectacular the view of the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. Of the more famous ones here, I will mention Säntis (2’502 m) and the Churfirsten mountain range, which was quite visible on the trail even in cloudy skies.
At the Chrüzegg station there is a mountain inn with a sun terrace inviting you to relax.
Summer toboggan run
Finally, Atzmännig is a small sports and leisure centre at 824 m above sea level. There is a ski slope and lots of winter and summer activities for children.
But what really attracts here in summer is the 700-metre-long steel toboggan run. During the ride, you overcome 126 metres of altitude difference by passing through tunnels and streams. And the 17 turns can make your head spin. I haven’t tried it yet.
