This is a magical place that I have visited twice and will definitely return again. The beautiful views, the crystal clear mountain lakes and their amazing colours from azure to dark, almost black, attract a multitude of people.

Those hoping for a solitary, spiritual experience during the hike may be a little disappointed. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this route and I assure you that it is not that bad. The area is quite vast and you do not have to stand in a queue to get to Giewont. Besides, the views compensate for everything.

So, full of enthusiasm and eager for amazing landscapes we reach Sargans village. There we change to bus no. 429 or 430 and go to Wangs, Pizolbahn station. Then take the gondola to Furt station and head to the first chairlift, which takes you to Gaffia station. The second chairlift takes you to your destination, Pizolhütte station, which is 2,226 m above sea level.

After an unforgettable gondola and chairlift ride, it’s time to move around a bit. On the route between Wildsee and Schottensee you will see the famous Pizol glacier (2,844 m). However, it takes some effort to get there, especially on the first part of the route. Afterwards the ascent is easier. At any time you can take a break at one of the lakes and have something to eat. I recommend the irreplaceable vegetable salad, which tastes great at this altitude.

On the trail you can meet amateurs of bathing in mountain lakes. Their shrill screams after entering the icy water can be heard for miles. So do not be frightened when you hear their screams.
