This is a scenic route from under the Säntis mountain towards the Kronberg summit, which offers a fantastic view of the Alps and the surrounding area. And it ends in the small village of Jakobsbad.
In the morning at the foot of Säntis it is still cool and grey, despite the sunny morning. This is the fault of the majestic mountain, which does not allow the sun’s rays to penetrate and warm the valley for quite a long time.
The coolness of the morning, the dark, still occasionally snow-covered slopes of the mountain and the clouds enveloping the summit create a fantastic atmosphere.
I must admit that I have not yet climbed Säntis (2’502 m). However, I am circling around it, choosing nearby routes until the right day comes….
However, it wasn’t Säntis that played first fiddle today, but the much lower Kronberg (1’663 m). A beautiful, idyllic route leads to it, with fantastic views of a whole bunch of alpine peaks. It is impossible to list them all here. Such landscape definitely makes the ascent several hundred metres more pleasant.
I might add that just before the summit there is a restaurant with a view terrace.
We chose Jakobsbad as our final stop. But there are many roads leading from Kronberg to Appenzell or Urnäsch. So you can choose where you want to end your hike. Even to Jakobsbad at least three routes lead. We chose the shortest one, which goes quite steeply down through the dense forest.
