I count the second attempt at a winter walk in the Tannenbodenalp area as very successful. This time the weather was good. There was practically no wind and the sun was nicely warming our cheeks. What is more, there was plenty of snow. We even brought a lot home in our boots.

But the view of the Churfirsten mountain range in this wintertime setting is unforgettable. I couldn’t tear myself away from the camera, wanting to capture this phenomenal beauty and show it to you. Of course, there is no comparison with the real view.

As a practical note, we got to the Tannenbodenalp station by mountain train from Unterterzen. A pleasant surprise for us was that with a general subscription we did not have to pay extra for the ride. And I must admit that we travelled quite a bit. It would have been difficult to climb the mountain on our own.

Then, already on foot, we went even higher. Although the route is not too long and there are no steep climbs, it still requires some physical effort. In case anyone has forgotten, it is much harder and slower to walk on snow. Not all of the path is cleared or trodden either.

If there are a few people ahead of you to clear the way, it will be easier. Otherwise you have to rely on yourself. In our case it looked very different. Sometimes we were up to our knees in snow. And if it wasn’t for the large amount of snow in our shoes, we would probably walk longer, because the surroundings and views are sensational. I also came to the conclusion that it is time to buy snowshoes.

Let me warn you that the signposts are quite few and it is easy to get off the route. That is why I recommend turning on the locator in your phone.

You can also take it easy on the snow-covered roads, of which there is no shortage, and just enjoy the views and the winter weather.
