In winter, this trail is prepared for snowshoeing. However, the snow varies. That is why I advise you to check the conditions on the trail before you go.
I walked the entire section in lightweight crampons, which gave me grip on small hills and more comfort than snowshoes. It all depends on the snow layer.
The winter path on the Haldi sun terrace starts at the top station of the Schattdorf – Haldi cable car (GA holders have free entry).
Most hikers head left at this point, but I perversely went right at the crossroads. The gradient on this side is gentler and thus the ascent uphill is less strenuous.
After walking for about a kilometre and a half, you pass a charming wooden chapel – Die Kapelle Maria Einsiedeln from 1932. Despite its small size, it is impossible not to notice. After all, it is located in one of the most beautiful viewpoints on Haldi and is the pride of the local people.
Anyway, the whole area is picturesque, as you can see from the photos. The valley is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and down below you can see Lake Urnersee, which in my photos is under a fluffy layer of cloud and mist.
Those who are cold and hungry are also sure to find something to eat. There are inns close to the piste, opened in winter with skiers in mind.
