The Plaine Morte glacier is located in the Bernese Alps, but we accessed it from the canton of Wallis, specifically the tourist region of Crans – Montana. We took two gondolas up the mountain and took off from the Montana station (Zaumiau). I recommend buying tickets online, as they are cheaper than at the ticket office at the cable car.

Not only the glacier, but also the amazing panorama of the Alps attracts the attention on site. Supposedly, from there you can also see Mont Blanc (4,810 m). Unfortunately, I was not so lucky, because the highest peak of the Alps hid from me behind the clouds.

I recommend going up just after the cable car has opened, when the crowds of tourists are still having breakfast in their hotels. The morning atmosphere is amazing. It is quiet, peaceful. Just you, the glacier and the high peaks.

The start of the route leads in a knot through two cantons – Wallis and Bern, and the trail ends at the Lac de Tseuzier lake in the canton of Wallis.

The great advantage of this route, apart from the wonderful views, is of course its diversity. After each ascent, a different landscape revealed itself to us, from rough rock formations, sometimes still covered with snow, to lush green mountain slopes. One certainly cannot get bored here.

However, I have to admit that the route is not the easiest, especially the part on the other side of the hill overlooking Lac de Tseuzier lake. There are many obstacles, from narrow gaps to high rock steps. I therefore recommend extreme caution.

After the small mountain lake Lac de Ténéhét, the road leads down to the dam.

At the end, it is still a quiet walk among the greenery, along the shore of the lake. On the way you pass a suspension bridge and on the other side you see a fantastic waterfall. The surroundings are beautiful. Before leaving, you can stop by the restaurant, which is located near the bus stop and right next to the dam.
